Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a severe multisystemic disease caused by Staphylococcus aureus infection. Its clinical features include acute high fever, rash, vomiting, diarrhea, hypotension, and multi-organ damage. TSS occurs not only in young menstruating women but also in non-menstrual women, men, and children. Since the 1980s, literature has reported TSS as a complication following burns, skin grafts, and surgical procedures. Toxic shock toxin I (TSST-1) is closely related to the pathogenesis of TSS and is the most important causative agent. TSST-1 is highly toxic, belongs to the pyrogenic superantigen family, and its infection can cause fever, desquamative rash, and shock, leading to multi-organ dysfunction and contributing to toxic shock syndrome. Nanjing Miaodi Biotechnology Co., Ltd. provides recombinant TSST-1 antigen as a research raw material to immunodiagnostic reagent companies. The recombinant antigen is expressed using an Escherichia coli expression system and purified by Ni affinity chromatography with a purity of over 95% (Fig. 1).
