Early pregnancy diagnosis in dairy cows is a crucial component of bovine reproductive management programs, and identifying non-pregnant cows as early as possible can generate economic benefits for dairy farms. Currently, only three companies offer early pregnancy detection kits for cows in the Chinese market: IDEXX (USA), Bio Tracking (USA, brand name Biopryn), and Genex (Canada, brand name DG29). There are no domestically produced kits of comparable quality available. The kit developed by Nanjing Miaodi Biotechnology Co., Ltd. targets bovine pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (bPAGs) and employs a double-antibody sandwich ELISA detection system. It also incorporates a biotin/SA amplification system (Figure 1). By qualitatively detecting bPAG antigens in bovine serum samples, it can determine whether a cow is pregnant. This detection system exhibits high sensitivity and specificity, achieving a 100.0% positive detection rate (sensitivity) and a 94.9% negative detection rate (specificity) for bovine serum 28 days after artificial insemination (using clinical ultrasound as the gold standard, Table 1).
The kit is simple to operate, requiring minimal operator expertise and advanced laboratory equipment; basic instruments such as a microplate reader (450nm wavelength filter) and a plate washer are sufficient. The entire experimental procedure takes approximately 2.5 hours, and each operator can process about 400 serum samples per day. The kit is stable in quality, with minimal batch-to-batch variation and a shelf life of 12 months.
